27 Apr 09. The Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Turkey agreed in November 2008 that the Turkish Armed Forces will buy 36 bridge laying armoured vehicles of the LEGUAN® type, which is based on the LEOPARD 1. Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co. KG (KMW) will supply the systems as part of an engagement letter. The final negotiations are currently under way between KMW and the Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB). All expectations are that the contract will be signed soon.

05 May 09. ThalesRaytheonSystems has been selected to deliver Medium Range Air Surveillance Systems including 14 Ground Master 403 radar systems, 12 for Finland and two for Estonia, and a Long Range Air Identification and Surveillance Radar System Mid Life Upgrade for five Teresa 22XX radars for Finland, which were previously supplied by Thales. The order value for the Ground Master radars and the Teresa upgrade is expected to be approximately €200m ($265m). ThalesRaytheonSystems has also been selected to provide 12 Sentinel radars as part of the air defense system selected by the Finnish Ministry of Defense to fulfill Finland’s future Medium Range Air Defense Missile System (MRADMS) requirements.

28 Apr 09. Thales UK has signed a contract with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to provide an innovative support solution for electronic warfare (EW) equipment fitted to the Royal Navy’s warship and submarine fleets. And to optimise coherency and efficient deliveryof support, Thales UK’s naval and aerospace businesses have joined forces for the enhanced contract. The new EW agreement is an enhancement to Thales UK’s existing and highly success­ful contractor logistics support (CLS) contract with the MoD to provide in-service solutions to all of the Royal Navy’s major sonar systems. The enhancement now means that Thales is providing a combined sonar and EW warfare support service to the Royal Navy’s frontline fleet. These include Invincible-class aircraft carriers, Type 23 and Type 22 frigates, and Type 42 destroyers. It also includes all classes of submarines. Future potential EW support options include the Type 45 destroyers and the Astute-class submarines.

29 Apr 09. DRS Sustainment Systems, Inc St. Louis Mo., was awarded on Apr. 23, 2009 a $ 22,419,508 firm-fixed-price/ Indefinite Quantity contract for 317 M989A1 Heavy Mobility Ammunition Trailers (HEMAT’s are being purchase via Delivery Order 0009 on the above referenced IDIQ. Work is to be performed in St. Louis, Mo., with an estimated completion date of Sept. 02, 2010. One bid was solicited and one bid received. U.S. Army TACOM LCMC, Warren, Mich., is the contracting activity (W56HZV-05-D-0332).

30 Apr 09. Comtech Systems, Inc., has received a $1.6m increase in funding to its previously announced AN/TRC-170 engineering and support contract. Total funding to date under this contract is $9.4m. Comtech Systems will provide services to support continued fielding of the U.S. Army’s AN/TRC-170 terminals. These services will include the inspection and repair of the terminals, and installation of the recently purchased AN/TRC-170 modem upgrade kits. Comtech will also provide formal classroom and practical hands-on training for personnel operating the upgraded AN/TRC-170 terminals. Comtech engineers will support Army field tests and network exercises, and engineering services on Department of Defense troposcatter systems other than AN/TRC-170.

07 May 09. Comtech Systems, Inc. received a $1.0m contract to upgrade a digital over-the-horizon microwave communications system for a foreign military. The award is for the upgrade of over-the-horizon troposcatter communications links with sites located on an offshore island and a land-based communications center. The system will provide a data rate of up to twenty megabits per second (20Mbps) employing the CS67200 digital troposcatter modem, in place of the p
