16 Jun 08. Kuwait has ordered 20 VBL Mk2 light armored vehicles for its special
forces, Panhard General Defense said. Kuwait will use the new VBLs, which will be delivered in 2009, for patrol and surveillance missions. ( Panhard) The sale marked a first step of a plan to equip the special operations units, the French company said. The Mk2 version is more powerful than earlier models, with a Steyr engine capable of 125 hp, and a four-speed ZF automatic gearbox and larger tires, giving higher mobility, particularly on sand. Firepower comes from a 12.7mm machine gun in a remote-operated turret, capable of operating day and night in all weather. The new VBLs will be used for patrol and surveillance missions, and will be delivered to the Kuwait interior ministry in the second half of 2009. (Source: Defense News)
