The Government of the United Kingdom has requested to buy a High Gain Measurement System (HGMS) with off-aspect mid frequency line arrays (MFLAs), HGMS components that include acoustic sensors, cables, test hardware and software; containers; anchoring equipment; integration and test support; spare and repair parts; publications and technical documentation; personnel training and equipment; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. 06 Dec 24. BAE Systems has signed individual contracts worth a total of approximately $2.5bn with both Sweden and Denmark for new CV90 combat vehicles. These contracts come under a new three-party framework agreement with the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) and the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) to expand the acquisition of new CV9035MkIIIC combat vehicles for both countries. This builds on an initial contract signed between BAE Systems and Sweden’s FMV in May 2024. Under these contracts, Denmark is procuring 115 new CV9035MkIIICs, while Sweden has agreed to acquire a total of 50 new vehicles. The agreement also includes further vehicles for Ukraine financed by the two governments. Together, this takes the total value of CV9035MkIIICs contracted under the framework agreement to approximately $2.5bn, including spares, support, logistics, and training.
05 Dec 24. KNDS Deutschland orders Trophy APS for German Army’s future Leopard 2A8 fleet. KNDS Deutschland has ordered 123 Trophy active protection systems (APSs) for the German Army’s future Leopard 2A8 main battle tank (MBT) fleet, EuroTrophy announced in a press release on 4 December. 02 Dec 24. Order for KNDS Deutschland for CV90 simulators for the Swedish army. The Swedish Procurement Agency (FMV) has placed an order with KNDS Deutschland for the delivery of three CV9040D simulators representing the combat support vehicles within the tank company. Each of the CV90 simulators consists of a cabin for the driver, turret crew and infantry squad. This makes it possible to train an entire infantry fighting vehicle crew at the same time. The Swedish command and information system is also implemented in the simulation. The CV90 simulators will be integrated into the LEOPARD 2 simulators already commissioned from KNDS Deutschland in December 2023 at the Swedish Army’s Land Warfare Center. This will enable joint, fully networked training of main battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles at company or battalion level for the first time. The simulators will be delivered in 2028. 04 Dec 24. The U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has awarded Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) a $245m has been awarded contract extension for the MK-48 Guidance and Control (G&C) Mod 7 program. This contract combines purchases for the U.S. Navy, the Royal Australian Navy and the Foreign Military Sales program. Lockheed Martin is expected to complete work on this contract by September 2027. The MK-48 Guidance and Control program is a critical component of the U.S. Navy’s submarine fleet, providing advanced systems for the MK-48 torpedo. These sections are necessary to increase the overall number of MK-48 Mod 7 heavyweight torpedoes in the Navy’s and allied forces inventory. This contract extension will allow Lockheed Martin to continue delivering these essential systems to the Navy, as well as allied nations. Earlier this year, Lockheed Martin delivered their 100th guidance and control section for the MK-48 torpedo, meeting a high-priority milestone.

04 Dec 24. The U.S. Army ordered three additional CH-47F Block II Chinooks from Boeing [NYSE: BA]. The Lot 3 contract award, valued at $135m, is a part of the U.S. Army’s ongoing modernization efforts. This contract award follows the U.S. Army’s February announcement that it is moving forward with full-rate production of the CH-47F Block II program. To date, Boeing is under contract for nine of up to 465 aircraft in the Army’s current fleet. The Army has also received funding from the U.S. Congress for three aircraft as part of the next production lot and awarded Boeing a contract last year for acquisition of long lead parts. Boeing delivered the first production CH-47F Block II aircraft to the Army in June followed by the second in September.

The U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) Chief Digital and AI Office (CDAO) has awarded Anduril Industries a three-year production agreement to scale a first of its kind tactical Edge Data Mesh, powered by Anduril’s Lattice Mesh. The mesh is already operational across multiple services and combatant commands, delivering critical data that enables mission-relevant generative artificial intelligence (AI) solutions specifically tailored to the unique requirements of the warfighter. This agreement will accelerate the expansion of the mesh to increase access to decentralized, distributed and disconnected systems, and to power new insights and real-time decision making at the edge. The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded BAE Systems’ FAST Labs™ research and development organization a $6m contract as part of the Pipelined Reasoning of Verifiers Enabling Robust Systems (PROVERS) program. Current formal methods tools, a type of software verification, provide high levels of assurance through mathematical proofs that certain properties hold, but can be time-consuming and difficult to learn and use. 04 Dec 24. DoD/DSCA Notifies Congress of Possible FMS of Javelin Missiles to Tunisia. The U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress that the Government of Tunisia has requested to buy one hundred eighty-four (184) Javelin FGM-148F missiles (includes four (4) fly-to-buy missiles); and thirty (30) Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units (LWCLU). Also included is missile simulation round System Integration and Check out (SICO); Javelin Restricted Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM); Javelin operator manual and Technical Assistance (TAGM); tools; spare parts; indoor/outdoor trainers; Javelin gunner training; Ammunition Technical Officer (ATO) training; Javelin maintenance training; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The total estimated cost is $107.7 m. The prime contractors will be the Javelin Joint Venture between Lockheed Martin, located in Orlando, FL, and RTX Corporation, located in Tucson, AZ. 05 Dec 24. Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has expanded its investment in Australian sovereign weapons manufacturing through the award of a non-recurring engineering contract to A.W. Bell. This latest contract will enable the ongoing development of A.W. Bell’s titanium casting capability and further develops Australia’s sovereign guided weapons and explosive ordnance (GWEO) manufacturing capabilities. A.W. Bell’s participation in Northrop Grumman’s Global Supply Chain Program has showcased titanium casting techniques with potential applications for programs like the company’s Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile-Extended Range (AARGM-ER). The firm was recently honored at the 2024 Northrop Grumman Supplier Excellence Awards with the Supplier Excellence award, recognizing their contributions and deliveries to key programs such as AARGM-ER.

Orbit Communication Systems Ltd., a leading global provider of maritime and airborne SATCOM terminals, tracking ground station solutions, and mission-critical airborne audio management systems has announced that it has won a tender from the Israeli Ministry of Defense to supply Multi-Purpose satellite communication Terminals (MPTs) for mobile and stationary ground platforms, valued at approximately $9.1 m. The systems are scheduled for delivery during 2025.

The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States of Spare Parts and Support for F-16 Aircraft and Active Electronically Scanned Array Radars and related equipment for an estimated cost of $320 m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) has requested to buy critical spare and repair parts, consumables and accessories, and repair and return support for F-16 aircraft; Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar spare parts and support; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The Israel Ministry of Defense’s Directorate of Defense Research & Development (DDR&D) announced today (Tuesday) that it has completed several contracts with Elbit Systems totaling approximately $40m. Under these contracts, Elbit Systems will supply the IDF with advanced drones and autonomous systems to upgrade the operational capabilities of its forces in the field. The new systems were jointly developed by the IMOD’s DDR&D jointly developed the new systems with the IDF’s Ground Forces and Elbit Systems. They include advanced capabilities and are designed for various missions, including precise intelligence gathering and targeted strikes.
As part of the contracts signed by the IMOD’s Director General, Major General (Res.) Eyal Zamir, Elbit Systems will supply the following advanced models:
- Drones designed for intelligence collection, capable of operating within Seek & Strike swarms and intelligence platoons
- Mission drones equipped with advanced ISR, terrain dominance, and attack capabilities for combat forces
- Mini-drone-based strike solutions for urban missions
Additionally, Elbit Systems will provide resilient communication solutions for unmanned systems. The deal continues the productive cooperation between the IMOD and Elbit Systems, strengthening the IDF’s autonomous combat capabilities on the battlefield.
03 Dec 24. The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) has selected the General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) SeaGuardian® Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) systems for its Long Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle program. This follows JMSDF use of SeaGuardian since May 2023 as part of its Medium-Altitude, Long Endurance (MALE) RPA System Trial Operations Project. SeaGuardian has been used by JMSDF to conduct various tests including whether unmanned aircraft can supplant some of the missions currently accomplished with manned aircraft. SeaGuardian is a MALE RPA system that can fly for 24 hours or more, depending on the configuration. GA-ASI has strengthened its Maritime Wide Area Surveillance (MWAS) for Japan with Optix+, which gathers information from the SeaGuardian sensors, as well as other data sources, displaying the full picture of surveillance information for its operator. This functionality makes it easy to task and direct its Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) information in real time. GA-ASI’s Optix+ software suite rapidly correlates and exploits collected data into an easily shared common operational picture. Having multi-source correlated data enables automatic detection of anomalous behaviors over waters.
03 Dec 24. Lockheed Martin – India – MH-60R Multi-Mission Helicopter Equipment and Follow-on Support. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of India of MH-60R Multi-Mission Helicopter Equipment and Follow-on Support and related equipment for an estimated cost of $1.17bn. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Government of India has requested to buy thirty (30) Multifunctional Information Distribution System-Joint Tactical Radio Systems (MIDS-JTRS). The following non-MDE items will also be included: advanced data transfer systems; external fuel tanks; AN/AAS 44C(V) forward looking infrared (FLIR) systems; an operator machine interface assistant; spare containers; facilities study, design, construction and support; support and test equipment; munitions; integration and test support; spare and repair parts; intermediate and depot-level repair capabilities and associated spares; communications equipment; software development, delivery and support, including Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS); Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) equipment; publications and technical documentation; personnel training and training equipment; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services, including Navy Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) repair capabilities and Performance Based Logistics (PBL); studies and surveys; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total program cost is $1.17bn. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to strengthen the United States-India strategic relationship and improving the security of a major defense partner which continues to be an important force for political stability, peace, and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia regions. The proposed sale will improve the Government of India’s capability to deter current and future threats by upgrading anti-submarine warfare capabilities. India will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment and services into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems, located in Owego, NY. The purchaser typically requests offsets. 02 Dec 24. Japan selects T-6 for primary trainer programme. Japan’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) has selected the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II turboprop aircraft as the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s (JASDF’s) next-generation basic trainer platform. An MoD notice issued on 29 November said the T-6 was selected for the JASDF requirement ahead of three other bidders. It said the T-6 was proposed by Kanematsu Corporation, the Japanese partner of the aircraft’s manufacturer, Textron Aviation Defence. (Source: Janes)
