26 Nov 24. Airbus has signed a contract with the UK’s Ministry of Defence to provide the next-generation modems for the nation’s Skynet satellite communications constellation. The new modems are delivered for the Future Protected Modem Type-A project. They will replace the current Paradigm Modem System, support the Skynet 5 satellites and the yet-to-be-launched Skynet 6A satellite, and will provide several significant capability enhancements. The new-generation, sovereign modem has been designed, developed and manufactured in the UK.
27 Nov 24, Commtact Ltd. has been awarded a major contract to supply its Phoenix communication systems to a Tier 1 European NATO member country defense entity. The Phoenix system will be deployed on a substantial number of tactical unmanned aerial systems (UASs), supporting communication ranges up to 180 km for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions. This integration will offer advanced capabilities, thereby enhancing the customer’s operational capabilities in complex environments. This order is expected to be followed by additional orders from the customer. The urgent requirement for resilient, reliable, and secure communication solutions strengthened Commtact’s position as the preferred supplier. Commtact was chosen for several reasons, including its extensive field-proven experience with the Phoenix systems and its capability to rapidly manufacture and deliver large quantities of advanced communication systems that meet demanding military standards for resilience and confidentiality. The Phoenix system is combat-proven, as well as in recent conflicts, having been installed on numerous platforms for various customers worldwide.

On November 27, 2024, Otokar signed the agreement through which Romania’s Ministry of National Defense awarded the company the supply of the 1,059 COBRA II 4×4 light tactical armored vehicles at a value equivalent to approximately 857 m euro (excluding VAT). Within the scope of the contract, the first 278 COBRA II 4×4 tactical light armored vehicles will be manufactured in Türkiye while the rest will be manufactured in Romania. The deliveries are planned to be initiated in the last quarter of 2025 and be completed in batches over 5 years. The U.S. Marine Corps has awarded Anduril Industries a $200m, five-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract to develop and deliver a Counter-UAS Engagement System (CES) as part of its Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS) programme. The CES aims to bolster the Marine Air Ground Task Force’s defences against a spectrum of air threats, particularly unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The CES, a critical component of the MADIS block upgrade program, is designed to provide advanced C-UAS capabilities that address the challenges posed by evolving drone threats. Central to this system is Anduril’s Anvil, a kinetic interceptor tailored to neutralise Group 1 and Group 2 drones. General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD), announced today that it was awarded two training support services task orders totaling $330m by the Army Contracting Command — Orlando. The task orders, awarded in August 2024, are part of the $975m Mission Training Complex Capabilities Support II (MTCCS) indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract. Mission training complexes are where soldiers and entire units receive simulation training in preparation for deployment. Under the first task order, valued at $180 m, GDIT will train soldiers across the U.S. Army Pacific mission training complexes. This task order has a one-year base period with four option years. The company will also provide training services at the XVIII Airborne Corps mission training complexes through a second task order valued at $150m, which includes a five-year base period and six option months. Over the life of these two programs, GDIT will train more than 500,000 soldiers through live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) environments – immersive exercises that simulate complex scenarios to strengthen warfighting readiness. The award comes after the completion of rigorous validation and environmental testing, and will see Hoverfly’s Spectre TeUAS deployed across critical operations as an integral part of the Integrated Tactical Network (ITN). The program award underlines the TeUAS’s payload compatibility, versatile multi-mission capabilities, and exceptional reliability. The VHA-H is one of several key technology initiatives directed by the U.S. Army’s Nett Warrior Program, aimed at rapidly prototyping and deploying equipment to modernize tactical communications. This development follows an initial purchase order for the system back in May, followed by a series of successes throughout 2024. The Iron Drone Raider, a state-of-the-art counter-uncrewed aircraft system (C-UAS), uses AI-driven technology to intercept and neutralise hostile drones with minimal collateral damage. Wavefront Systems Ltd., a leader in sonar technology, has been awarded a contract by glodal defense company MARSS Group to deliver its Sentinel IDS® (Intruder Detection Sonar) as part of MARSS’s NiDAR surveillance system for a fleet of Corvette-class vessels deployed in South-East Asia. The contract involves the installation of NiDAR and associated sensors, by MARSS, onboard multiple vessels. The NiDAR platform will fuse a range of new and legacy sensors – including Wavefront’s Sentinel IDS sonar, navigational radars and infrared cameras – into a single user interface, to provide a highly accurate and rapid means of detecting and classifying underwater and surface threats to the vessel, when in transit, at anchor or in port.
