16 Jul 24. Babcock supplies London Fire Brigade with vehicles to tackle wildfires. We have supplied four extreme weather response vehicles to the London Fire Brigade (LFB) which will be trialled this summer to respond to the growing threat of grass fires and wildfires. The four new vehicles have off-road capabilities and technology that enables firefighters to tackle fires quickly and safely. Able to pump water while driving and carry approximately 500 litres of water, these unique vehicles are also equipped with wildfire beaters and leaf blowers that can control the direction of wildfire travel and help extinguish it. Unveiled a simulated wildfire response training exercise on 11 July, the vehicles will now be located across London and mobilised to grass fires and wildfires around the capital.
18 Jul 24. Kromek’s Radiation Detector Selected by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service. Kromek, the designer and manufacturer of radiological and biological detectors, based in Sedgefield, Co. Durham, announced that its D3M radiation detector has been selected by the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service under Lot 6 of the Detection, Identification and Monitoring (DIM) Equipment Uplift contract on the UK’s National Resilience Framework. The Framework, which supports all blue light services, is scheduled to be in place for four years and an initial order has already been placed specifically for the DIMS vehicles.
17 Jul 24. Marlborough Communications secures £21.4m of orders. Cohort plc, the Independent Technology Group, announced that its subsidiary Marlborough Communications Ltd (“MCL”) has been awarded two orders with a total value of £21.4m by a UK government customer. Work will commence immediately and is expected to be complete within one year.

16 Jul 24. Hypersonix Launch Systems has signed a framework contract with the UK Ministry of Defence to advance the United Kingdom’s hypersonic capabilities. The Australian aerospace company, specialising in hydrogen scramjet propulsion technology and hypersonic aircraft design and manufacture, has announced that it signed a framework contract with the MOD earlier this month for the multi-supplier Hypersonic Technologies and Capability Development Framework (HTCDF) initiative. The MOD plans to use to the framework to accelerate the development of a sovereign hypersonic capability to support the UK’s defence force. Cohort, the AIM-listed independent technology group, announces that, following a competitive tender, its subsidiary EID has signed a contract with the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) to supply the Portuguese Army with a Tactical Deployable Communication and Information System (TDCIS). The value of the signed contract is €33m with delivery over a three year period.
17 Jul 24. Bundeswehr orders 70mm-practice rockets for combat helicopters – envisaged order value over €100m. Rheinmetall has finalized a framework-contract with the Bundeswehr concerning the delivery of 70mm-practice rockets. The German Armed Forces want to procure rockets with a possible order value of over €100m. An initial order worth a mid-double-digit million euro amount was booked in the second quarter of 2024. It is foreseen to deliver the pilot lot in 2024. Upon acceptance of the delivery, the serial production will commence between 2025 and 2029. Concerning the development, qualification and production of the unguided 70mm-rockets, Rheinmetall cooperates with the Belgian subsidiary FZ of the Thales Group. The rockets are also in use as armament of the combat helicopter Tiger. The helicopter can fire the unguided rockets out of a firing pod for possible engagements at infantry targets, positions or unprotected and lightly armoured vehicles. The now ordered practice-rockets allow combat helicopter crews to operate in realistic training scenarios. Once more, the newly placed commissions underline Rheinmetall’s leading technological position for munition development and production in Europe.
18 Jul 24. Spain has signed an agreement with the United States to strengthen its national defence by acquiring Lockheed Martin‘s Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) missiles. This acquisition marks Spain as the 16th member of the PAC-3 user community. The agreement, finalised 17 July 2024, in Madrid, symbolises a technological upgrade for Spain’s military and a reinforcement of the defence partnership between Spain and the United States. 17 Jul 24. Marshall has received a £4.5m contract extension to provide ongoing engineering support for the French Air Force’s fleet of 14 Lockheed Martin C-130H Hercules aircraft. The most recent extension builds on an initial four year contract that has already been extended once by a period of two years. The awarding body is the Service Industriel de l’Aéronautique (SIAé), a state-owned maintenance organisation. Marshall will provide engineering support for the C-130H’s maintenance, repair and overhaul, with work centred around SIAé’s facility in Clermont, France. The contract also covers the ongoing provision of C-130 parts and repair kits manufactured in-house by Marshall under exclusive Authority to Manufacture permissions granted by Lockheed Martin. NanoGraf, the battery material company enabling stronger, lighter, longer-lasting lithium-ion batteries, today announced it has received its initial production order from leading global aerospace and defense technology contractors to produce its batteries for the U.S. military. NanoGraf’s M38 18650 cells will primarily be used for tactical hand-held radios, where NanoGraf’s proprietary silicon anode technology will allow U.S. soldiers to continue using their devices for up to 15% longer compared to what they use today. The production order is a major step in support of the Department of Defense’s ongoing initiatives to foster a more expansive, resilient domestic battery supply chain.

15 Jul 24. The U.S. military has awarded SRC, Inc. a $25m contract to develop the Long-Range Radar, a large instrumentation radar that will be used for range safety, research, development, test and evaluation of systems on Army test ranges. The contract is a part of the U.S. Army’s ongoing Range Radar Replacement Program. The program is intended to provide the Army’s test ranges with new radars, equipped with improved testing capabilities and reduced life-cycle costs, by developing and deploying modern radar designs. It also will be used to evaluate capabilities and limitations of critical Army equipment. This system is critical to supporting the current Army test ranges as well as preparing for future conflicts. Lineaje, a leader in continuous software supply chain security management, today announced that Lineaje SBOM360 has been selected by the Department of the U.S. Air Force’s (DAF) for a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase 1 contract. As the industry’s first software supply chain and software bill of materials (SBOM) manager, SBOM360 will automate the detection and remediation of today’s most pressing software supply chain challenges within the U.S Air Force. In the past year alone, more than 75% of software supply chains were exposed to cyberattacks —and 40% of organizations took a month or longer to recover. Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $4.6m contract by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for dynamic, airborne missions as part of its Artificial Intelligence Reinforcements (AIR) program. This project aims to provide advanced Modeling and Simulation (M&S) approaches and dominant AI agents for live, multi-ship, beyond visual range (BVR) missions. It is a critical step in prioritizing and investing in breakthrough technologies for national security and to meet the evolving needs of customers. DARPA’s AIR program will improve the government-provided baseline models’ speed and predictive performance to better match how the Department of Defense’s systems perform in the real world. During the 18-month period of performance, Lockheed Martin will apply AI and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to create surrogate models of aircraft, sensors, electronic warfare and weapons within dynamic and operationally representative environments. 18 Jul 24. Babcock International Group (Babcock), the defence company, has been awarded a contract extension by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to continue supporting urgent operational requirements for Ukraine’s military land assets. Babcock is providing vital equipment support services to the Armed Forces of Ukraine to keep their vehicles available for operations and, where needed, return them to service as quickly as possible. The framework agreement with the UK MOD, means that as well as maintaining military vehicles and equipment, Babcock will manage the supply chain and spares and continue to train the Ukrainian military to conduct the repairs themselves. Babcock has been steadfast in its support to Ukraine, performing this role for the last 12 months. From July 2024, it will now deliver another critical period of support for the Ukrainian armed forces, with further options to extend beyond this date. Currently providing the maintenance, repair and asset management of British Army vehicles and equipment in the UK, this contract extension demonstrates Babcock’s ability to provide critical operational support internationally.
16 Jul 24. Galvion receives follow-on 8,400 Batlskin Caiman helmet order for the Canadian Dismounted Infantry Capability Enhancement (DICE) programme. Galvion, a world leader in innovative head protection systems and power and data management solutions, has received a follow-on order from the Department of National Defence (DND) Canada for its flagship Batlskin Caiman® ballistic helmet systems. The Canadian Dismounted Infantry Capability Enhancement (DICE) programme contract was awarded in February 2023 for 2,100 helmets and 4,200 helmet covers, all successfully delivered. Now in year two of a five-year framework contract, the DND has exercised an option to order an additional 8,400 helmets and 16,800 helmet covers taking the total Canadian DICE order to 10,500 helmets and 21,000 covers, to date. Developed over a number of years with extensive SOF community collaboration and feedback, Galvion’s Caiman® helmet system has been tried and tested on operations and is in service across multiple countries, delivering unmatched levels of weight and comfort, and is expressly designed to incorporate electronics, communications headsets, and other critical equipment needs, now and into the future. The helmet is equipped with Galvion’s premiere APEX lining system, an intuitively adjustable design that enables a customized fit for users. The helmet systems assessed for DICE were trialled by members of the Canadian Light Infantry at the end of 2022. Conducted under operational conditions, the trials included the integration of equipment such as night vision goggles, gas masks, hearing protection, and cold-weather gear. The Caiman helmet received the highest rating by a significant margin and was selected after a phased bid process.
16 Jul 24. Australia to procure Bushmasters to provide C2 support for HIMARS. The Australian Department of Defence (DoD) has signed a AUD45m (USD30.5m) contract with Thales Australia to build 15 additional Bushmaster 4×4 protected mobility vehicles (PMVs) for the Australian Army. The DoD said the vehicles – to be built at Thales Australia’s facility in Bendigo, Victoria – will be fitted with command-and-control (C2) systems to support the Australian Army’s High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) long-range fires regiment. Ordered from the US, Australia’s HIMARS capability is scheduled to be delivered to the Australian Army from 2025. Deliveries of both on-order batches are scheduled to be completed by 2027. 15 Jul 24. New $100m drone package to grow ADF SUAS fleet. Minister for Defence Industry Pat Conroy has announced that the federal government is investing $100m to boost the ADF’s small uncrewed aerial systems (SUAS) fleet. The package covers the acquisition of two small uncrewed aerial systems: the Quantum-Systems Vector 2-in-1 and the SYPAQ Systems CorvoX. The government expects that the package will enhance the Australian Defence Force’s surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, potency, and improve force protection across land and littoral environments. The acquisition ensures “Australian military personnel are provided with cutting-edge lethal and non-lethal capabilities and underscoring an unwavering commitment to National Defence,” a release from the Minister said. The capabilities can also be deployed as a complement to Australia’s crewed systems, and are scheduled for delivery in 2025. Despite the acquisition, Defence has committed to continue trialling low-cost and expendable uncrewed and autonomous systems which can be constructed at scale. The Quantum Systems US subsidiary Quantum-Systems Inc., a supplier of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aerial intelligence solutions, announced it was awarded two contracts under DEF129-SUAS, formerly known as Land 129 Phase 4B, totaling $61m (AUD $90m). The award, signed April 24, 2024 in Brisbane, Queensland, is comprised of an acquisition contract to provide the Australian Defence Force (ADF) with Vector/Scorpion 2-in-1 fixed-wing eVTOL small uncrewed aerial systems (SUAS) and a support contract for the provision of training, maintenance, engineering, supply and logistics, and support services. Delivery will begin April 2025 with support services continuing into 2031. The acquisition and support contracts will have significant work and delivery elements performed by Quantum-Systems Australia in Redbank, Queensland, providing in-country capability for contract execution and contribution to the local economy with a focus on supporting Indigenous Enterprises, SMEs, and entities promoting veteran employment. Quantum-Systems Australia recently opened its 22,755 square-foot manufacturing facility in March 2024, signifying a long-term commitment to Australia and dedication to fostering the creation, enhancement, and maintenance of Australian Industry Capabilities.
