04 April 24. X-Energy UK Holdings, Ltd (X-energy), a wholly-owned subsidiary of X-Energy Reactor Company, LLC, and Cavendish Nuclear, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Babcock International Group, today welcomed a funding award from the UK Government’s Future Nuclear Enabling Fund (FNEF) to further the development of their plans for Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs) in the UK. The Government’s award of £3.34m will be matched by X-energy for a total programme of £6.68m. The companies will use the funds to develop UK-specific deployment plans including an assessment of domestic manufacturing and supply chain opportunities, constructability, modularisation studies, and fuel management. X-energy and Cavendish Nuclear also announced a partnership with Kier Group (Kier), a leading UK provider of construction and infrastructure services, to support constructability and supply chain analyses. Kier joins steel producer and engineer Sheffield Forgemasters and the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (NAMRC) to support X-energy and Cavendish Nuclear in completing the scope outlined in their FNEF proposal. The companies’ goal is for 80% of the value of the Xe-100 projects to flow to UK firms. Last year X-energy and Cavendish Nuclear signed a memorandum of understanding with Howden, the Glasgow-based gas circulation component manufacturer. They will also work with Nuclear Waste Services to review the approach to spent fuel management.

04 Apr 24. Marshall has received a £11m extension to its longstanding contract with Lockheed Martin to manufacture and supply cockpit trim panels for the C-130J Super Hercules airlifter. Since 1996, Marshall has manufactured more than 1,000 cockpit trim panel kits—including panel and reveal kits. in addition to escape hatch and cover kits—for installation into every C-130J produced by Lockheed Martin. The panels are manufactured from phenolic glass fibre sandwich structures with a Nomex honeycomb core, followed by finishing operations such as painting, electrical assembly and integration. These are provided to Lockheed Martin’s production facility in Marietta, Georgia, as lineside kits of plug and play parts.

02 Apr 24. HENSOLDT supplies all-round vision system for self-propelled wheeled howitzer from KNDS. HENSOLDT has sold its all-round vision system SETAS (See Through Armour System) to KNDS in Germany. The order value, comprising a total of 54 units, is in the double-digit m range. SETAS will be integrated into the customer’s RCH 155 self-propelled artillery gun. SETAS is a high-performance day and night observation system for armoured vehicles of all kinds, givintg every crew member the opportunity to obtain full visual situational awareness 360° around the vehicle from inside the vehicle. Thus, threats within their radius of action can be reliably identified and classified at an early stage.

02 Apr 24. Lithuania contracts NT Service for urgent C-UAS procurement. Lithuania-based NT Service has been contracted to deliver counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UASs) to the Lithuanian military to meet an urgent requirement to combat ‘drones’. The contract, valued at EUR8.03m (USD8.72m) and spanning 36 months, involves the provision of anti-drone dome systems and individual suppressors, according to a contract notice published on 18 March on the European Union tendering website. In total, 351 anti-drone dome systems – more widely referred to as omnidirectional C-UASs – and 130 individual suppressors are being acquired from NT Service. 03 Apr 24. Rheinmetall has received another order from the Spanish government in the higher double-digit million euro range. The Group is to supply the Spanish army with a total of 104,000 mortar rounds in 60mm, 81mm and 120mm calibres by the end of 2025. The framework agreement concluded in the first quarter of 2024 is already the second and includes an extension option for two additional years. The mortar rounds ordered will be used by the Spanish army’s infantry units, among others, in high explosive, smoke and illumination ammunition variants. Depending on the calibre and mortar system used, they have different ranges of between 2.59 km (60mm) and 8.25 km (120mm). Rheinmetall mortar ammunition offers increased range, enhanced precision and optimised effectiveness on target, enabling forces to effectively engage targets in difficult terrain or in urban environments. The current order from the Spanish government underlines Rheinmetall’s leading role as a systems supplier in the field of steep-fire systems. Rheinmetall, one of the world’s largest ammunition manufacturers, was recently awarded a contract to supply the Spanish army with 155mm artillery ammunition worth over €200m.
02 Apr 24. Rheinmetall is contracted to manufacture 22 undercarriages and weapon systems for self-propelled howitzers PzH 2000. The Duesseldorf based technology group Rheinmetall has received an order from KNDS Germany to supply core components for 22 self-propelled howitzers PzH 2000 via its divisions Weapon and Ammunition, and Vehicle Systems Europe. Rheinmetall delivers 22 weapon systems L52 of 155 mm calibre and just as many chassis for the PzH 2000 for the German Bundeswehr. Following a final system integration and commissioning at Rheinmetall in Unterluess, the first of these artillery systems are to be delivered to the Bundeswehr in the summer of 2025. This contract entails a total contract volume of around €135m for Rheinmetall. This contract emphasises Rheinmetall’s expertise as a technology leader for 155mm artillery weapons as well as a high-performing partner in tracked vehicle construction. Rheinmetall is a global leader for gun barrels and the accompanying ammunition technology – including the 120mm smoothbore cannon for battle tanks, for example. Many user nations around the world rely on Rheinmetall’s weapons technology. This contract furthermore underlines the Bundeswehr’s continued trust in the quality and reliability of the PzH 2000. This weapon system, continuously modernised since its development in the 1980s and 90s, is known for its excellent mobility, long-range firing power and protection. In the Ukraine, the PzH 2000 is currently proving its reliability and outstanding accuracy. 03 Apr 24. VINCORION based in Wedel has signed a contract for the delivery of more than 700 EPG huskyV W 600 onboard generators for the Boxer. Additional orders for future projects are expected, meaning orders for a total of more than 1,000 generators are anticipated. This demonstrates the performance of the company’s military energy systems in armored vehicles, too. The new VINCORION generator, the EPG huskyV W 600, is a water-cooled onboard generator for use in all scenarios: in the Boxer, it can see to the vehicle’s power supply as well as supplying the various mission modules as it supplies power of up to 600 amperes, making it ready for future requirements, too. A new digital voltage regulator has been incorporated, enabling the generator to be adapted to different applications.

Tyvak International SRL (“Tyvak International”), a Torino, Italy-based subsidiary of Terran Orbital Corporation (NYSE: LLAP) and a leading European provider of nano and microsatellites, today announced a secured service subcontract for the European Defense Agency’s (EDA) Hub for EU Defense Innovation (HEDI) proof-of-concept prototype 2023. It will be fielded by the United States Marine Corps Small Unit Remote Scouting System. The Navy ultimately selected the K1000ULE through a comprehensive down selection evaluation process. Conducted at a government test facility and overseen by the University of Maryland UAS Research and Operations Center, the following capabilities were evaluated:

(Astrolab) announced that NASA has awarded the company, together with its teammates Axiom Space, Inc., and Odyssey Space Research, a contract to advance the development of the Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) which will help Artemis astronauts explore more of the Moon’s surface on future missions. US Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has announced that she has secured over USD415 m in funding for the Air Force Research Lab in Rome (AFRL Rome), New York, in Fiscal Year 2024. AFRL Rome works in the fields of surveillance, reconnaissance, quantum information science and intelligence. Through the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, Congresswoman Stefanik delivered several congressional funding increases for AFRL Rome, including USD2 m for counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS) high-speed imaging technology. AFRL scientists and engineers have already developed a suite of C-UAS technologies, designed to detect and defeat drones without interfering with military and civilian systems. Chess Dynamics has been awarded a contract by BAE Systems Maritime Australia to supply its SeaEagle FCEO surveillance systems for the first batch of the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) Hunter class frigates. The system will provide the RAN with a state-of-the-art surveillance capability for the detection, tracking, and identification of surface and air targets as part of the Hunter Class Frigate Program. The highly accurate tracking data is expected to allow passive targeting for the weapon systems, reducing overall operator burden. The SeaEagle FCEO has been selected for integration into several global naval programmes, including the Royal Navy’s Type 26 Global Combat Ship, on which the Hunter class frigates have been designed. The system is equipped with an advanced daylight camera, a high-resolution infrared camera, and an eye-safe laser rangefinder. It also features a sophisticated software suite that provides a comprehensive picture of the maritime environment. The SeaEagle FCEO system will be integrated into the Hunter class frigates’ combat management system, providing the crew with a single, intuitive interface. The system can also share information with other ships and assets in the fleet, enhancing the RAN’s overall maritime situational awareness. The contract represents a significant milestone for Chess Dynamics and further establishes the company as a leading provider of high-performance electro-optic sensor systems for the maritime defence market. 02 Apr 24. Naval Group and PT PAL Signed a Contract with Indonesia for 2 Locally Built Scorpene Evolved Full LiB Submarines. On March 28th 2024, Indonesia chose Naval Group and PT PAL to strengthen the capabilities of the Indonesian Navy with two Scorpène® Evolved Full Lithium-Ion battery (LiB) submarines to be built in Indonesia in PT PAL shipyard, through a transfer of technology from Naval Group. In accordance with the Defence Cooperation Agreement signed between the governments of France and Indonesia in August 2021, the Indonesian authorities have chosen Naval Group and PT PAL for their submarine program. The two companies had joined forces through a Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) signed in February 2022. 01 Apr 24. DroneShield has been awarded an approximately $900k R&D contract from a Five-Eyes Government. The contract is notable in that it specifically aims to leverage the potential of the DroneSentry-X Mk2 and aims to provide an initial set of software tools to enhance end-user capabilities in the Counter-UAS Electronic Attack domain. This contract aligns closely with DroneShield’s current technology roadmap. Software controlled multi-channel wide band disruption allows for not only optimised channel management, frequency management, power usage and optimisation but also the addition of custom waveforms targeted at various threats. Advancements in drone protocols designed to move away from RF interference as well as work in high noise, high clutter environments means that traditional methods of disruption may become less effective over time. With a software approach to disruption the ability to adapt the disruption to stay one step ahead of the technology has become paramount of successful disruption systems.
