30 Jun 21. Expecting to partner with countries around the world to introduce new technologies and increase economic prosperity and safety. L3Harris Technologies’ (NYSE: LHX) new CEO, Christopher E. Kubasik, expects to expand the company’s focus on partnering with countries around the world to introduce new technologies and help increase economic prosperity and safety in the regions.

Kubasik, who succeeded William M. Brown yesterday as the second CEO in the company’s history, said L3Harris is poised to address customers’ demand for complete end-to-end solutions and to grow its global presence.

“I look forward to travelling again to develop new partnerships and to expand existing relationships, helping our allies overcome their toughest technology challenges,” Kubasik said. “As the leading defense technology provider, we have tremendous capabilities and resources to help allies address their economic, industrial and security needs.”

L3Harris is a global company with a workforce of 48,000 people and operations around the world supporting customers in more than 100 countries. Approximately 20 percent of L3Harris’ revenue comes from customers outside the United States, with the company working to expand its strategic partnerships and grow its global business footprint.

06 Sep 21. Thistle Design Continues to Deliver into Type 26 Programme Under New Ownership.

  • Thistle Design prepare to dispatch the next set of Marine Encoder Ring Systems to GE Power for BAE’s Type 26 programme
  • Thistle Design’s parent company, BEI Precision, are acquired by $4.3bn private equity firm Arcline to become part of the Quantic Electronics group.

Thistle Design have been designing and manufacturing sensors for use on Royal Navy ships and submarines for more than two decades. Recent projects have included the sensors to synchronise the prop shafts on the QE Class carriers, and a similar capability is being supplied to GE as part of their cutting-edge electric propulsion systems for BAE’s Type 26 programme, providing feedback to the induction motors on speed and direction of each shaft. Thistle’s production facility in Midlothian, Scotland are now ready to dispatch the seventh set out of an initial order of ten sets and anticipates further orders with BAE’s continued success in its export sales of the Global Combat Ship.

Quantic™ Electronics, a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management, recently announced the acquisition of Thistle Design’s parent company BEI Precision Systems & Space Company, Inc. from J.F. Lehman & Company. BEI Precision designs, engineers, and manufactures highly accurate, resilient, and reliable position feedback sensors and frequency reference technologies for mission-critical space, land, air, and sea applications.

17 Aug 21. StandardAero Completes Acquisition of H+S Aviation as part of Signature Aviation’s Engine Repair and Overhaul Business. StandardAero officially completed its acquisition of Signature Aviation’s Engine Repair and Overhaul (ERO) business on 1 July 2021.

H&S Aviation, based in Portsmouth, Hampshire, is an engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider and part of the Signature’s ERO business international network comprising five separate entities:  Dallas Airmotive, W.H. Barrett Turbine Engine Company, H&S Aviation, International Governor Services (IGS) and International Turbine Service (ITS).  ERO is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, with two overhaul facilities, (one in Dallas, Tx and the other in Portsmouth, England), ten regional turbine centers, one component MRO site and two parts/distribution facilities.

The acquisition adds approximately 1,100 people with annual revenues approaching $500 million to StandardAero’s global MRO networks of now nearly 6,600 employees across 55 major facilities worldwide.  StandardAero customers include global and regional airlines, commercial transportation providers, corporate flight departments, private operators, government agencies and defense departments.

08 July 21. Communications & Power Industries (CPI) has successfully completed the purchase of TMD Holdings Limited and its subsidiaries, including TMD Technologies Limited and TMD Technologies, LLC (together, TMD). Consisting of approximately 170 employees in facilities in the United Kingdom and the United States, TMD is a world-leading designer and manufacturer of technologically advanced microwave, radio frequency and high voltage equipment for radar, electronic warfare, communications, medical, EMC testing and scientific applications.

TMD brings new products and technological capabilities to CPI’s established portfolio of electronic components and subsystems focused primarily on the defense and communications markets. TMD’s range of reliable and innovative products includes traveling wave tubes (TWTs), TWT amplifiers, transmitters, microwave power modules, high voltage power supplies, and other microwave devices and amplifiers.

“TMD has a well-earned global reputation for high-reliability transmitters and microwave devices, in particular state-of-the-art microwave power modules and TWT amplifiers. We have long been impressed by the quality of TMD’s people and technology. Adding TMD’s proven products to CPI’s Electron Device Business will provide a TMD with a prosperous, long-term home for their business and will enable the companies to offer customers broader capabilities and more comprehensive solutions for radar, electronic warfare, communications, EMC testing and related applications,” said Andy Ivers, president and chief operating officer of CPI.

The newly acquired business will be owned and operated as a subsidiary of CPI and will be part of CPI’s Electron Device Business, which focuses on components used in the generation, amplification, transmission and reception of microwave signals. TMD’s leadership team will remain with the business and report to Todd Treado, president of CPI’s Electron Device Business.“
