26 Nov 09. Hampson records 42% drop in earnings per share. UK-based aerospace engineering group Hampson’s underlying earnings per share plummeted 42 per cent during the first half of the year, as the group continued to see programme delays and a downturn in the automotive market. In addition, reduced revenues in its Aerospace Components and Structures unit contributed to the overall decline in results, although Hampson continued to enjoy solid military aerospace demand throughout the first six months of the year, which ended on 30 September. Continuing its development in the United States, Sagem (Safran group), has finalized the acquisition of the company Optics 1, Inc., after receiving the necessary approvals from American authorities. Optics 1 is specialized in opto-mechanics, electro-optics, and the design, production and integration of precision optical systems for the commercial and defense markets. The acquisition, carried out through Sagem’s Swiss subsidiary Vectronix AG, will enable Sagem to expand its business and develop a leadership position in the U.S. market, especially for defense applications. Sagem already operates in the U.S. optronics market via Vectronix, Inc*.
