Awareness of the important role of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs) is “the most critical step” required to facilitate the convergence of manned and unmanned aviation, according to a new eBook from Rockwell Collins. TheeBook reviews progress being made towards the convergence of manned and unmanned aviation and was the topic of conversation at a press conference today at the ILA Berlin Air Show 2010.
“As an industry, we’ve made a significant amount of progress towards allowing unmanned aircraft to safely fly in civil airspace, but there’s still a great deal of work to be done,” David Vos, senior director, UAS and Control Technologies for Rockwell Collins, stated. “The new eBook focuses on the need to create awareness of the important role that unmanned aerial vehicles are playing in today’s society.”
Topics covered in the eBook, titled “Awareness: The Most Critical Step to Facilitate the Convergence of Manned and Unmanned Aviation,” include:
*New programs and technology tests underway that demonstrate the solutions available today to enhance UAS reliability
*A detailed review of technologies being developed to improve UAS safety and reliability

Rockwell Collins released its first eBook, “Five Steps to Facilitating the Convergence of Manned and Unmanned Aviation” in July 2009.
